Duncan Macgillvray

The partners and staff at CARREL + Partners LLP are pleased to announce the appointment of Duncan F. Macgillivray, H.B.A., J.D. as their newest Associate.

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Duncan received his Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, First Class Standing from St. Francis Xavier University in 2005. He received his Juris Doctor from Queen¥s University School of Law in 2008. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2009.

After summering at Roy D. Macgillivray Law Office in 2006 and 2007, Duncan articled with CARREL + Partners LLP. Through these experiences he has gained valuable experience working with senior lawyers in a variety of personal injury, motor vehicle accident, accident benefits, and long-term disability insurance matters. Duncan currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of Thunder Bay and Area, and is a member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.

As head of the Family Law Department at Carrel+Partners, Samuel Bachinski, with seventeen years experience, provides expert service to his clients in all areas of family law - cohabitation and separation agreements, divorces, child and spousal support, and division of property.

Johanna Maki offers sold estate planning and administration advice to executors, beneficiaries and other claimants. Ms. Maki works in all aspects of real estate with experience in corporate and commercial matters.

Robert V. Botsford LL.B.

The partners and staff at Carrel+Partners LLP are pleased to announce the appointment of Robert V. Botsford, LL.B. as their newest Associate.

Mr. Botsford received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba in 2006. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2007.

Mr. Botsford articled with our firm and gained valuable experience in a variety of corporate and litigation matters, with particular focus in the insurance and personal injury departments.

Mr. Botsford, who was born and raised in Fort Frances, is very pleased to return to Northwestern Ontario. He looks forward to contributing to the region and to the community of Thunder Bay. His passion, ability and drive will be of great value to his clients at Carrel+Partners LLP.

Nicholas Pustina QC

CARREL + PartnersLLP is proud to announce that Nicholas J. Pustina, Q.C., was elected as a Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada, to take office May 25, 2007. The Benchers, 40 in number, are responsible for the governance of Ontario's 36,000 lawyers.

A recipient of the Law Society of Upper Canadaís BiCentennial Award of Merit, Nick continues to be active in the community and the profession.

CARREL+PartnersLLP congratulates Nick on this accomplishment, as well as the upcoming 50th anniversary of his call to the Bar on June 26, 2007. We look forward to the further contributions that Nick will make as a Bencher, as he continues with his Real Estate practice at CARREL+PartnersLLP.

Ms. Lepere received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, First Class Standing from Lakehead University in 2002 and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 2005. Ms. Lepere was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2006.

Dan Newton

CARREL+Partners LLP is proud to announce the appointment of Dan Newton to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.

The Ontario Trial Lawyers Association is dedicated to the preservation and improvement of a civil justice system which fully and fairly protects the rights of those who have suffered losses as a result of the wrongdoing of others. OTLA has a membership of 1,100.

Since 1984, Dan Newton has helped accident victims and their families with injury and disability claims. He has appeared at all levels of the Ontario Court system and at the Supreme Court of Canada.

CARREL+Partners LLP also recognizes the contribution of Ross Murray Q.C. of Thunder Bay, as past Director of OTLA.

Kristopher Knutsen

CARREL+Partners LLP is proud to recognize that Kristopher H. Knutsen, Q.C.* was recently awarded the Thunder Bay Law Association's Service Award for 2005. Chosen by his local peers, the award recognizesMr. Knutsen?s contribution to the legal profession and the cause of the justice over many years.

In 1998, Mr. Knutsen became the first Northern Ontario elected Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the most prestigious trial organization in Canada and the United States.

In 2003, Mr. Knutsen was presented with the H. Bruce Hillyer Award by his Ontario-wide peers, the 1,500 strong Ontario Association of Trial Lawyers. This award was presented for Mr. Knutsen's known effective use of trial advocacy and his reputation for taking difficult cases even to the Supreme Court of Canada to ensure injured victims received justice.

As a specialist certified by the Law Society, as part of the CARREL+Partners team and with thirty-five years of experience, Mr. Knutsen brings to our firm recognized expertise in complex personal injury cases. Cynthia A. Cline

Ms. Cline received her High Honours Bachelor of Arts in Law from CarletonUniversity in 1997 and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor in 2001. She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2002.

She articled and worked as an associate in the Toronto law firm of Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP where she gained valuable experience in corporate and commercial law, including public and private securities offerings, financings, corporate governance and securities registration.
