John
Carrel was a dedicated lawyer, proud veteran and respected community
leader, but, more importantly, husband, father, grandfather, and native
of the 200 Block, West Brock Street.
A member of the Law Society of Upper Canada for 50 years, he began his practice in 1950 as a partner with Cyril O'Connor for 12 years. After practicing alone for five years, he became one of the founding partners of what would eventually become known as CARREL+Partners LLP in 1967. His work on behalf of CARREL+Partners LLP, as in all aspects of his life, spoke to his skill, integrity and commitment to his profession. Many students have benefited from his mentorship, and have gone on to establish successful careers in the Thunder Bay community. Mr. Carrel's wisdom, counselling and guidance are missed by everyone who had the fortuity to work with him.
A friend, neighbour, advocate and a compassionate man of selfless devotion to the good of the people of Thunder Bay, Mr. Carrel was involved with the First United Church, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Alzheimer's Society, the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and Canadian Cancer Society - to name but a few organizations that benefited from his support.
John Carrel represented how life should be lived - with integrity, tenacity, tolerance and abiding faith. At CARREL+Partners LLP, we honour "J.B.C" by continuing to follow his example. He was, simply stated, a man of class. As a businessman and community leader, he is remembered. As a good friend and family man, he is missed.
"He lived, he laughed and he understood."
